Important Announcement: Closure of SYICCN Operations

 

It is with profound sadness that we announce the closure of the Saskatchewan Youth in Care and Custody Network's (SYICCN) current programs and services following the termination of our core funding agreement with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Social Services.

 

For many years, SYICCN has been dedicated to ensuring that young people with lived experience in Saskatchewan's child welfare and youth justice systems have a voice, a community, and access to the support and resources they deserve.

 

As a youth-driven organization built on the principle of "by youth, for youth," we have had the privilege of walking alongside countless young people, supporting them through challenges, celebrating their achievements, advocating for their rights, and creating opportunities for connection and belonging.

 

While our funded operations and staffing are coming to an end, SYICCN will remain a registered nonprofit organization. We are actively exploring alternative funding opportunities in the hope of rebuilding our capacity and resuming programs and services in the future.

 

The loss of funding does not mean the need for independent youth advocacy, peer support, connection, and belonging has disappeared. These needs remain as important as ever.

 

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the young people who trusted us, the alumni who helped shape our work, our dedicated staff and board members, and the many community partners who have stood alongside us throughout the years.

 

To the young people of Saskatchewan: Your voices matter. Your experiences matter. Your rights matter. We hope you will continue to advocate for yourselves and one another, build connections, and know that you deserve to be heard, respected, and supported.

 

Although our current operations are coming to an end, we remain hopeful that this is not the end of SYICCN's story.
